Setting: License Keys

A license enables a licensed feature of Suma to operate in Production mode for a particular Suma installation.

Each license has a license key associated with it.  You can obtain a license (and thus its license key) by purchasing one from the Suma shop.  At the end of the purchase process you are issued a License for the feature you selected and with it a License Key.  That Key can then be used in an Suma installation to activate that feature in that installation.

This article discusses some of the concepts related to License Keys.

Licensed Features of Suma

The licensed features of Suma as well as the universally available features of Suma are discussed in the article: Suma’s Features.

Activating a License

Activating a license associates that license with a particular Suma installation.  Activating the license is easy: you enter the license key associated with that license into the License Key field on the General Settings page of the Suma plugin installation where you want the license to be active, and click the Activate button.  This will cause Suma to contact the license server to associate the license with the particular installation.  The status of the license key as returned by the license server will be displayed in this area.

License States

The state of a license is reported by the Settings page (shown above).  The state of the license can be:

  • Invalid – This indicates that the license key is not recognized by the license server.  Perhaps you entered the key incorrectly or otherwise entered a key that is different from what was issued.  Double-check that the key is the one you were issued.  If you are still seeing this error, please open a case with our Help Desk and we will look into it.
  • Active – The license is associated with the Suma installation where you are viewing the status message.  In this state the feature associated with this license is enabled for Production use.
  • Suspended – In this state the feature associated with the license is not enabled for Production use.  This state is rarely seen but occurs if the license manager suspects that the license is being abused (used in more than one Suma installation at the same time).  If you encounter this state you should open a case with our Help Desk to investigate the matter and possibly reset the license so that it can be used.
  • Cancelled – In this state the feature associated with the license is not enabled for Production use.  This state occurs when the license has been revoked, such as when a refund was issued for the license.

Moving a License

Suma licenses apply to the Suma installation where they are registered.  If you need to move that license to a different Suma installation, then you can simply click on the Remove button next to the activated license and then enter the same license key in the new Suma installation and click Activate.
